Gabriola Theatre Festival August 15 to 17th

15 August 2014

We are the Gabriola Arts Council: Hear us roar! Roaring Twenties, that is!

This year, along with the usual incredible theatre, we salute the world of the Charleston, flapper dresses, zoot suits and speakeasies.

Over the first five years of the Gabriola Theatre Festival, Director Jim Wilson-Storey, the hardest- working man in Gabriola show business, created an event that many Gabriolans consider the highlight of the summer. This year—the Festival’s sixth—we are building on Jim’s legacy and taking it to the next stage (pun most definitely intended!). We are bringing back Festival favourites, such as the free Outdoor Performance Stage, Kids Corner, Street Art and the Lions’ Pancake Breakfasts. We’re excited to announce new features such as a Photo Booth, the Curtain Call Club, an emerging artist discussion (the Under 30s Theatre Thrills:  A Salon), and the Speakeasy Launch Party. All this plus a new clean-green partnership with Sustainable Gabriola, a team-up with the Gabriola Public Library and a tribute to Gabriola’s own legend of the stage, Antony Holland!

Don’t forget the main stage plays! After conversing with more than 100 theatre companies from around the world, we’re excited to offer a spectacular lineup with something for everyone! This year’s program promises to be bold, innovative, inspiring and entertaining!

Of course, it couldn’t be any of these things without the generous and talented volunteers, coordinators, sponsors, audience and—last but certainly not least—the artists themselves. Thank you to the actors, performers and visual artists who make this event happen. You’re the bee’s knees!

The Sixth Annual Gabriola Theatre Festival is sure to be a hotsy-totsy good time and a swell weekend of summer sunshine, island energy and fearless theatre! Play your part: buy your tickets today!

Artistically yours,

Alina Cerminara
Festival Director
