Olebar Point- One of the Most Scenic Places
Just off the tip of Orlebar Point is Entrance Island. Located on Entrance Island is a lighthouse and some coast guard buildings. In the distance visitors can see the Coast Mountains on a clear day.
The lighthouse, since 1876, has warned ships from crashing into the island’s jagged reefs and shallow waters.
On the grounds of Orlebar Point are a few viewing benches & picnic tables and a day use area. From Olebar Point a leisurely stroll takes you up to the farm stand of Ike’s apple orchard.
Orlebar Point is also a good wildlife and bird watching location. From the viewing benches birding includes sea birds and predator birds like eagles, sea gulls and herons. Out in the ocean sometimes viewing includes seals and whales.
Scuba diving is also enjoyed off the point. The shallow waters and island reefs attract many divers to the region. However currents can be swift. Prepare well with tide tables.
This area is also well known to the locals as the “Magic Mile” as there isn’t a better place to watch a summertime sunset.
